HEALTH INITIATIVE OF ISCI FOUNDATION FOR RURAL WOMEN

On August 23, 2024, ISCI Foundation, the best NGO in Gwalior, reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women by organizing a Menstrual Hygiene, Anemia Awareness, and Health Checkup Program at Hari Khera No. 1 Aanganwadi Kendra in Murar, Gwalior. This initiative is part of our broader mission to address critical health issues and promote sustainable development in underserved communities.

Addressing Critical Health Issues in Rural Areas

In many rural communities, access to basic healthcare and health education remains a significant challenge. Women and girls are often the most affected, with issues like menstrual hygiene, anemia, and lack of access to essential health resources leading to long-term health consequences. Understanding these challenges, ISCI Foundation is dedicated to reaching these underserved populations with impactful health programs.

The event at Hari Khera No. 1 Aanganwadi Kendra was designed to tackle these pressing issues head-on. With a strong focus on menstrual hygiene management, anemia eradication, and cervical cancer prevention, the program sought to educate and empower women to take control of their health.

Expert Guidance from Dr. Veena Pradhan

A highlight of the program was the session led by Dr. Veena Pradhan, a respected senior gynecologist. Dr. Pradhan provided invaluable insights into the importance of menstrual hygiene and its impact on overall health. She also discussed the causes and prevention of anemia—a condition prevalent among women in rural areas due to nutritional deficiencies and lack of awareness.

Dr. Pradhan's session went beyond just delivering information; it was an interactive dialogue where women were encouraged to ask questions and share their concerns. By addressing these issues directly, she provided practical solutions and guidance, empowering women with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their health. The discussion on cervical cancer vaccination was particularly significant, highlighting a crucial but often overlooked aspect of women’s health.

A Collaborative Effort for Lasting Impact

The success of this program was the result of careful planning and coordination by ISCI Foundation’s dedicated team. Under the guidance of our founders, Mohit and Sweta, a committed group of volunteers—including Tisha, Kamini, Anmol, Mohit, Vishal, Rishabh, Kapil, and Varun—worked tirelessly to ensure that the event ran smoothly. Their efforts included organizing the health checkups, which involved measuring participants' height, weight, blood pressure, and BMI. These assessments helped identify women at risk of health issues, enabling timely intervention.

The volunteers also played a critical role in distributing high-quality sanitary napkins to the women and girls. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to end period poverty—a condition where women and girls lack access to the necessary resources to manage their menstruation. By providing these essential items, ISCI Foundation is helping to ensure that all women can maintain their health and dignity during their menstrual cycles.

Building a Healthier Future

Since its inception, ISCI Foundation has been at the forefront of empowering women through health and education. With programs like the one held at Hari Khera No. 1 Aanganwadi Kendra, we have reached over 12,000 girls and women, providing them with the knowledge and resources they need to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

The impact of these programs extends far beyond the immediate beneficiaries. By educating women about their health, we are creating ripple effects that benefit entire communities. Healthier women lead to healthier families, and healthier families contribute to the overall well-being and development of society.

Looking Ahead

ISCI Foundation remains committed to its mission of empowering women and girls in rural and low-income areas. The challenges are many, but with the continued support of our volunteers, partners, and the communities we serve, we are confident in our ability to drive meaningful change.

As we look to the future, we will continue to expand our health programs, reaching even more women with the resources and support they need. Together, we can build a future where every woman has the opportunity to live a healthy, empowered life.
